You can apply the above to just about any big box store.

Ah, but herein your mistakes lie.

Wal Mart comes to me, the rural citizen. It places stores within reach of me. WM is a welcome change for people living in the country and in small towns. I realize that this is difficult to understand to people with diverse options. But to people in fly-over-country, WM is a big deal. When one goes Supercenter people are almost giddy.

The stores that are displaced in these small towns, charged more for the product, payed less for the labor, and offered no benefits. WM, typically has no problem getting workers. In these small towns, jobs that offer benefits are few and far between. The standard of living is raised for people.

Trust me, Ive long been an opponent of WM. It is a strange feeling to defend them. But when I stepped back from the problem and took a look at it, and when I saw the unbelievably good treatment my mother-in-law received as an employee, my mind changed. I cant say Im an all out supporter by any stretch. But the attacks Ive seen on WM are one sided. I can lay down the good with the bad and see that the good outweighs the bad.

Joel.
