It is very interesting to see the different opinions here which is why I started the post in the first place....As my interviews continue I am still noticing the same problems....when I ask (or my panel members ask) where they see themselves in 5 years they can't even answer the question...so We changed it to where they see themselves in one year....most common answer to date "it's hard for me to guess" or some variation of that. I guess considering there ages which range from -22-24) and in todays world it is unreasonable to ask them to tell us there "goals"? AS a 37 year old, who works a full time job and goes to school (at a university) full time at night I see these kids in my classes, and it's funny that very same mentality that started me on this post is displayed in the classroom. I don't know how many of you have attended or are attending a university today but we use this thing called "blackboard" which is online where we have discussion forums etc,,,and access to group e-mail. The most common question seen on the e-ails and boards there? Whine is our next test? Now let me ask you if you are going to class everyday wouldn't you know when the next test is? The fact of the matter is they are not even going to class..so How can I be sure they are going to come to work? How do I put my faith in someone who cant set even a short term goal? How can I subject my team members to potential failure because of a youngster's seemingly zero aptitude for loyalty? I got to tell you it is hard especially considering I am a government employee responsible for thousands of soldiers who need or services to survive. Any way keep the feedback coming and please excuse any typos you see here I feel like I am using telenet because I cant see what I am typing for some reason.
