Of course you care about the watch! We can either focus on the actual topic or the derail.

One is boundlessly more fun then the other. The whole watch thing isn't even political, but it does scream the stereotypical "stupid american tourist" that we are kinda infamous for in the states.

"Wow look at all the locals reaching out to touch me, they are so happy, they love me even more then my own country, and they said I suck at foreign policy, hey where's my watch" LOL!!

I remember last time I was in Costa Rica, i needed to get my passport renewed, and you wouldn't believe the stories I heard fromt the american tourists on how thier passport was stolen. The best was one guy who was on a hiking tour. He decides he does not want to actually carry his backpack while hiking (what it is with american tourists carrying backpacks in costa rica even if they are in the cities the whole time and are staying at 4-5 star hotels, I've no idea, but they all carry backpacks, anyways) so the guy sees a costa rican kid hanging out. he calls him over hands him his backpack and a twenty dollar bill and tells him to carry it and follow him for the hike. The guy immediately turns around putting his back to the kid, and continues on his hike tour or whatever, not even bothering to watch the kid. About fifteen minutes later the guy decides he wants an altoid or whatever out of his backpack so turns around to get it from his backpack, and is actually suprised that neither his backpack nor the kid are there.
