For either of them, I think a running tally is going to be tough to keep up with!

If you are a McCain fan I really wouldn't make too big a deal about who has the most buddies in jail or most buddies that should be in jail. Don't forget the S&L scandals of the 80s and 90s, namely, oh, a guy named Keating. His actions alone caused this country and it's taxpayers more economic loss than anyone else uh, prior to the year 2000. Hard to tell who is tops now, but the guy only got 5 years What is really interesting is to examine the Charles Keating case and what caused the Lincoln Savings and Loan failure and compare that to today's problems. Apparently, quite a few people either ignore the past or don't learn from it. I will state that McCain was cleared of "criminal" wrongdoing. Apparently laws aren't tough enough. McCain fans will claim this led McCain to be enlightened and inspired him to champion the McCain-Feingold Act, which was a noble attempt at something that failed miserably.

McCain and Keating had become personal friends following their initial contacts in 1981,[10] and McCain was the closest socially to Keating of the five senators.[21] Like DeConcini, McCain considered Keating a constituent as he lived in Arizona.[18] Between 1982 and 1987, McCain had received $112,000 in political contributions from Keating and his associates.[22] In addition, McCain's wife Cindy McCain and her father Jim Hensley had invested $359,100 in a Keating shopping center in April 1986, a year before McCain met with the regulators. McCain, his family, and their baby-sitter had made nine trips at Keating's expense, sometimes aboard Keating's jet. Three of the trips were made during vacations to Keating's opulent Bahamas retreat at Cat Cay. McCain did not pay Keating (in the amount of $13,433) for some of the trips until years after they were taken, when he learned that Keating was in trouble over Lincoln.[6][23]
