"I am definitely not an economist either. I believe in a lot of economic models but I have a problem with the fact that most economists rely on the need for greater consumption in order to spur economic growth. Our true problem in America is how much we consume, yet that is what our entire economy is based upon. Now that wages are stagnant and inflation is increasing, we are consuming less. This has dire consequences on our economy. I propose the best solution for our country, not the best global solution, would be to consume more from home and less from abroad. I do not have enough expertise to provide advice for the world. Heh."--Dune

That's the big reason why I believe that outsourcing of jobs is a very bad idea. If all the jobs in America were outsourced, who in America will have the ability to earn any money that they could then use to consume stuff? And without consumption, where does that leave our economy but up shiznit creek without a paddle? Now, that may be exaggerated, but it doesn't take a wild imagination to consider the consequences on a much more reasonable scale. And, as far as I know, outsourcing is a result of a deregulation mind frame. Personally, the more I read about "free market," the more I'm inclined to think that it is much like communism: good in theory, bad in practice. Not that I want a nationalized economy, because I don't think that's the answer either, but I think there's certainly a middle ground to be found.

All of this bailout activity has just been screaming Atlas Shrugged at me (as many things do). All this reasoning based on need, on fear...it just doesn't bode well to me. I so want to do something, but I just can't figure out what can be done that would actually solve the problem rather than exacerbate it.
