The current Federal Minimum wage is $7.15/Hr. Now working 40 hours a week that means a Minimum wage earner will make $1144 every month gross. That is $13,728 a year. Sure that doesn't seem like a large amount of money, but bear in mind that said worker would get all of their money back from income tax because of how "little" it is. Now, in my opinion (because I've lived off of poorly paying jobs) A single person can Live, in a Basic manner, off of that yearly income. Will they be living a life of luxury? No they will not. They will have to cook instead of order out. They probably won't be taking that cross country trip in their Hummer. It is because it is a Basic Living Wage which they earn. Trying to separate the BLW and the MW is pointless because of how synonymous the terms are. Someone who is living the Basic Life is spending their earnings on the Minimum they need to survive: food and shelter.

I do agree that arbitrarily raising the MW is pointless. When the MW goes up, everything goes up because the companies have to pay their workers more, thereby increasing their costs and causing an increase of prices on their services/products in order to compensate for the increased goods. It's a fact of life, but some people will always get the short end of the stick. Raising the MW doesn't help them in a capitalistic society, there are other ways to do it. Just think of the most evil socialistic idea Moore would put forth, and that's my solution. I'll go pack my bags for Cuba now.
