I am in a really weird place right now as far as views on UHC goes. I manage a kitchen in a family owned restaurant I have shares in so I want the business to do as well as it can while cutting down on costs such as unnecessary payroll. I have to do the usual hiring and firing and typical management stuff, but I also have to get in and bust %%! so we can run on the minimum personnel needed. We have crappy workers and awesome workers with a few in between and you can usually tell after a week who wants to work and who doesn't. Anyways, the few that do bust their asses are awesome. I bend over backwards for them to keep them working and I hate it when they get sick. Most are young, typically 19-25 and really just want to work, go home and do their thing and that is that. If one of them gets sick, I have to either suck it up and everyone works that much harder, or hire someone to fill in on extended illness/injuries. So yeah, these kids can't afford health care so the basically drink robutussin for 2 or 3 weeks until they feel better. With a UHC they could get in, get healthy and get back to work, making everyone happy. So yeah, in my personal experience, a UHC system would make me more money with less work. I already pay 150 bucks a month for health care I never use, I can't imagine any additional taxes being much more than that so why not really.
