Man, don't get me started on regulations on small business.

Just the other day I was pulling my 32' goose neck trailer with my 1-ton. I have them registered for hauling less then 26,000 pound which is the max limit for a person with out a Commercial Drivers License.

Anyway I get pulled over by a Oklahoma Department of Transportation and he jumps me over not having ODOT numbers and a CDL and a bunch of other expensive papers and crap because they changed the law that the vehicle has to be registered for it POTENTIAL carry weight, not what you intend to haul on it, so in my case my trailer is 20,000 and my truck is 11,500 for a combined of 31,500. Basically what he was telling me is I am being penalized for having an excellent trailer well capable for what I haul instead of marginal trailer that would be loaded to capacity at a combined of 26,000#s.

I think what burns me the most is if me as a citizen registered my set up at 26,000 and have good faith to remain under that weight class that should be good enough unless they scale me and see I am over, then they can fine the hell out of me for being a law breaker, but now they have removed the option, and taken away yet one more thing in which the Government is unwilling to take the word or, or trust it's citizens in general, yet we are expected to always accept what they tell us.

This is an example of some extra regulation that has no impact on larger companies, who for the most part, have DOT numbers and all of that paper work if they need it or not simply because they have a bureaucracy in place to deal with such things.

The other thing that cracks me up is these ODOT guys set around pulling over guys like me, and 18-wheelers, and it mostly has nothing to do with safety, he showed no interest in if my trailer was in good shape and if the brakes worked, only if I had paper work.

Because of these regulations now I will likely sell a very well built trailer with top of the line disk brakes and buy a lighter model that is only rated at 14,000 so my combined potential carry falls under 26,000#. Now when I haul a load of pipe I will be doing do in a less safe manner, but I will be complying with regulations while doing so.
