Temple Brethren,
To help keep us all informed, I have gathered bits of information regarding arachnians, magick, Maloveous, Evoloch, and Malzor. If any of you have any information, please feel free to contribute or to make corrections to what I pen. Its difficult to recount accurately when one is not a first hand witness, but I felt this sorely needed to be done.
In a scroll, Quistis explained that while in Saldaea they encountered the muatan-al, Lord Maloveous. He informed us that the business with Arachnians and magick was all some kind of experiment for him. In exchange for allowing us to leave with our lives, he asked for our items [ones they had collected while in Saldaea] in payment. It's rumored that Gauire still has some items.
The entrance to the Clock Tower has been sealed by a crimson energy barrier, through which nobody can pass. A mark of Evoloch is there. Quistis mentioned that when the first Spurians arrived on the scene, several gargoyles and some sort of guardian attacked, but they were defeated.
According to a scroll left by Cori, Galuff, the Flerian Merchant, explained that Malzor, a Sanene archmage, put the energy barrier in place. Apparently, Malzor competes with High Lord Maloveous for the favor of the one they worship, Evoloch. It seems Malzor has concealed some source of time-altering magick within the clock tower, and sealed it off following the High Lord's visit this past evening, for fear his rival would discover what he has hidden.
The sewer was thoroughly searched for an entrance to the clock tower by different parties, including Soyam, Guaire, Grath, Cagliostro and a few others, but none was found. Hithual guards and guard sergeants now patrol the area. Soyam explained to a group of us that Galuff said that if someone could master the time magicks Evoloch once controlled, they could make it so Arachnians had magick again. Reports indicate that Saldaea is now completely controlled by Maloveous not just the forests, but also the entire island.
This is not the first time Spur has become the battleground for disputes between rivals. Pray prepare yourself for whatever fate awaits us. Lord Maloveous was in Spur last night.
One last note: A Saian mage of the Society asked that visitors of the Society of Ancient Word's premises be considerate of their privacy by not inviting thieves to accompany them when they visit. In the interest of peace amongst us, I think it would be wise to respect their wishes.
Sa bless you all!
