Okay, Im not an expert on economics. In fact, I cant say I understand economics that well, but here are a few things Ive found to be reasonable assumptions about the subject.
.) There is no such a thing as, The economy. There is only people buying and selling things and services.
.) There is no such a thing as money. It is a concept. It is a measure of faith in a vehicle that operates in leu of the barter system. It is a lubricant. Even gold serves only to speed up the rate of exchange of goods and services for other goods and services.
.) Politicians cannot manage economies. They are too stupid to do such a thing. The economy is so complex that it is beyond management. All a politician can do is retard the process to such a degree that the appearance of management can be sold to the people as progress.
.) There is no proof that manufacturing jobs are best. When you went to college did you train to be a widget flipper on an assembly line? No? Well why not? If manufacturing is so good why didnt you aspire to it? There is no practical proof that manufacturing jobs improve the economy and the opposite appears to be more likely.
.) The vigorousness of an economy is a measure of the rate at which money flows from one hand to the other. The government taking some of that only reduces the volume of money to be transferred. A consumer economy is definitely a demonstration of increased flow.
.) Other people dont owe you anything. If you are in the lower 50 percent of the tax bracket, you in fact are, to some degree, taking other peoples stuff. This is wrong. And it solves nothing. Your best bet is to work harder and get a better job.
.) Economies (countries) dont compete economically with each other, that is a canard. Businesses compete with each other, but governments cant and dont. The governments of some countries fiddle with the flow of goods, but they do so to the detriment of their country.
.) The purpose of production is consumption. If I have Ronald make my hamburger, both of us benefit. I have freed up time to do the things I do better and Ronald is employed in doing the things he does better. If I have Qui Chang Kane build my radio, we both benefit. I have a cheap radio, and he has a job.
.) Socialism, if used to modify a Capitalistic system can be very powerful and very good. If used as a primary system it is despotism. Hillary and Obama want the power your money gives them. You become a 70% slave when they tax you at 70%. History has demonstrated that slaves arent very productive. That being the case, the economy suffers to the degree that the people are enslaved by their government.
.) Other people dont owe you anything. I mentioned that twice because it has become in vogue to go about pretending to be patriotic while pushing laws that confiscate the wealth of others to the benefit of those feigning such patriotism. This is about the most un-American belief a person can have.
Joel.
