This has been a crazy year for me. Lots of ups and downs, and some pretty rough downs at that.
Last year at this time I was dealing with several ulcers that were caused by anti-inflammatories.
Then, my brother stole almost all of my mother's property, over a half-million in real estate.
Towards the end of the year we almost lost our house. My wife lost a major contract and we wiped out our savings and even dug into the 401k. Last week we managed to refinance and are hoping that we'll be able to stay afloat.
Tomorrow I'm going in for surgery. It isn't life threatening, but it's livelihood threatening. I've been struggling with De Quervane's Tenosynovitus ?sp? for years now, pretty much since I started doing pottery, and have been getting cortisone shots for it. But, the tendon can only take so many of those and mine's been shot twice as much as it should have been. I've avoided the shot through anti-inflammatories for over a year now, but then there are the ulcers. What is a fella to do?
So, tomorrow a doctor is going to cut into me. We'll see if this fixes the problem. I know I've read that many people regret having had the operation and they weren't potters. But the doctor assures me that it will be okay. I don't really know, and I'm seriously concerned. Another orthopedic surgeon told me that he wouldn't do this if he were a surgeon or a potter.
On the upside, we kept our house. And, I won several awards for pottery last year. Three were awarded to me by the craftspeople and the guests where I work. One was a national prize for third place. That one I've very proud of since the competition was quite stiff and especially since I've managed a national award in an art/craft in only 5 years, as an old man. I've very happy with that.
For those that I pissed off this year, sorry, I'm really not a bad guy and Kbar really isn't an atheist. For my friends, I want you to kick the assses of the people I pissed off, if you don't mind.
My wife isn't going to allow me to be on the computer for a couple of weeks, so I'm not going to be able to respond to any arguments I'm currently involved in. They'll probably die a good and noble death. I've left in the middle of discussions too many times this year. Sorry about that.
Anyway, see ya in a couple of weeks,
Maudlin me.
